| Solar electric systems |
|
Solar electric systems are designed either in space or on the ground ,one of the major characteristics of solar modules is that they produce power in proportion to the surface exposed to the sun, regardless of their size.
Thus solar modules are used in great variety of sizes and capacities. The smallest solar chips are used in pocket calculators producing a few micro-watts, Slightly larger ones, which produce a few-watts, are used in garden lights and radios, etc. Recently , 20 or 30 watts modules are widely used in street signs and street lights. In fairly large scale applications batteries are used in photovoltaic system, connected to an inverter, to convert the direct current (DC) to alternation current (AC). Rechargeable batteries are used to allow uninterrupted operation at night and in rainy weather.
Solar modules can be used to power ventilation systems, lighting or water pumping systems, or as power plants to deliver power to residential and business areas. Their uses are virtually limitless. |
